19.Nov.2010 The Outfit by Darwyn Cooke. A Review by Jason Chin.
“The Outfit,” is a brutal, amazingly dark and frank noir graphic novel. Based on the novels by Richard Stark (aka Donald Westlake), Darwyn Cooke (probably best known for his incredible “the New Frontier” for DC Comics) has adapted and illustrated into graphic novel form. And it truly lives up to that name…
01.Aug.2010 Sleep is Good!
“Sleeper” by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips is one of those things you shouldn’t delay reading. I read it in one delicious gulp and as it flew through my mind I couldn’t help comparing it to other great works; the Godfather, Gaiman’s Marvelman work, the Watchmen.
07.Jun.2010 Stumptown Review by Jason Chin
Of course, it’s not as easy as it first sounds as Dex is slapped around, kidnapped, forced to meet with the head of the Marenco crime organization, shot twice and thrown off a bridge. And that’s the first issue.
26.Apr.2010 Food for Thought – A Review of “Chew”
Chew is really what IMAGE comics should be focusing on; it’s offbeat, both in its writing and art with a wonderful, fun world to explore. Created by John Layman and Rob Guillory, this graphic novel tells the story of Tony Chu. He’s more than just a regular detective with the FDA; he’s a cibopath– whatever he eats he receives a psychic impression from; from a simple hamburger (he flashes on the slaughterhouse death of the cow) to a piece from a corpse (he might see the murder take place).
05.Mar.2010 The Brave Brave and the Bold Bold – By Jason Chin
Two amazing examples of fun, joyful and even wonder-filled properties both come from DC and they both share the same name: The Brave and the Bold.
22.Feb.2010 Berserk (manga) – A Review by Drake
Berserk by Kentaro Miura is the defining story that the other dark fantasy mangas wish they were.
23.Jan.2010 In Defense of Aquaman – By Jason
Aquaman needs a giant reboot. Let’s make him into the hero that people remember from decades of history. It’s an amazing feat to see what they did with Green Lantern in the past few years and I hope that DC turns theirs sights onto Aquaman and gives us a new title with new and exciting (and excited) creators.
